About two months ago I posted these energy bites here. Since then I’ve probably made them eight times because me and my kids love them so much. Today I’ve decided to mix things up a bit and make a decadent chocolate version. Now I’m sure I will be rotating the other kind out with these at least half of the time. They are amazing!

These remind me a lot of a no-bake cookies, but these are far healthier. It might have something to do with the fact that they don’t have 2 cups of sugar and a stick of butter. So, when you get that chocolate or dessert craving, just pop of few of these and you’re craving will most definitely be satisfied and you won’t have to feel guilty about it. These are also perfect just for a midday snack or even a quick on the go breakfast.

If you haven’t ever made energy bites yet, what better time than now? I mean these are chocolate, how could you not want them :)?

Just try not to get as addicted as I am. Enjoy!

Agave should work fine. Maple syrup might work too, I’d probably add a little less since it’s runnier than honey.

I replaced the honey with date paste and took out the flax seeds (not good for my tummy issues) very very yummy! Next time might use grated chocolate rather than chocolate chips to make them stick together better

Does anyone know if these can be frozen? Would love to freeze a batch so I don’t eat them all LOL

Hi Julie, I’ve never tried freezing them but imagine that it would be ok. Hope that helps! Have a great day!

Tried these today as I’ve been looking for a homemade version (similar) to clif bars. These are amazingly delicious and will satisfy any sweet craving. I put the information into myfitnesspal for those asking for nutrition info. If you make 20 balls out of the recipe (without choc chips), it’s 104 calories per ball, 6g fat, 11g carbs, 2g fibre, 5g sugar, 2g protein. Thanks for posting the recipe!

      Thanks.
I was trying to track down the nutritional content. I substituted 1/4 cup whey protein powder for 1/4 cup of the 1/2 cup of ground flaxseed

Just leave it out and add a little more oats, I actually forgot it last time I made them so added more oats to thicken it up then suddenly realized what I’d done but they still tasted great!

wondering why these have to refrigerated? I drive routes for my job and would love to keep these in the car to help stay out of fast food lines.

I kept mine out of the fridge for the day and they were fine, they just keep better in the fridge and I personally prefer them cold.

I’m allergic to tree nuts. Are there any alternative ingredients I can use to replace the almond butter and coconut?
